Bonaire, among the world’s top 5 dive destinations, is home to 86
well-defined dive sites. Over 30 years of environmental protection
laws have earned Bonaire a reputation for some of the most
beautifully preserved marine life in the world. Abundant underwater
life includes more than 300 species of tropical fish and over 120
different types of coral. Due to Bonaire’s leeward location outside
of the hurricane belt and consistently pleasant climate, crystal
clear visibility prevails at any depth
Great Adventures at Harbour Village offers great value diving
packages, personalized service and instruction for beginners to
advanced divers, a snorkeling program including SASY (Supplied Air
Snorkeling for Youth) for children ages 5 and up, kayaking &
sailing, as well as equipment rental for scuba diving and
unsurpassed snorkeling, all accessible right outside your door.
On August 4, 2003 the 60-foot historic vessel, Our Confidence,
unexpectedly sank 55 feet to the bottom of the Caribbean Sea. The
boat now lies just 150 feet west of our beach, inadvertently
creating a new site for divers to explore. Fish have taken up
residence in the sunken vessel and the clear water and its proximity
to the surface make the shipwreck an underwater wonder for divers
and snorkelers alike. |

In addition to being a great new dive site, the wreck is also a
significant part of history. The Our Confidence was first a Danish
fishing boat, followed by a transport for World War II refugees,
then a Caribbean inter-island freighter and finally the first vessel
to bring aid to the victims of a hurricane that devastated St.
Maarten.
