The most northern island
in the Hawaiian chain is Kauai, nicknamed the Garden Isle because of
its dense foliage. Geographically, it is Hawaii's oldest and most
mature island. Here you'll find the natural wonders of the Waimea
Canyon, the Fern Grotto and the dramatic Na Pali coast. Lush, green
valleys cut through folds in the mountains and open out to the sea.
Soft tradewinds rattle palm fronds as the surf relentlessly pounds
against the shore. Fluffy white clouds gather against the mountains
while the sun provides nurturing warmth. When most people imagine a
lush, tropical island in the middle of the Pacific Ocean, it is Kauai
that they have in mind.
